Milan was dry on A-list celebrities until Dolce & Gabbana opened the floodgates at their show, where Hollywood and Bollywood stars, supermodels and artist Jeff Koons spruced up the front row. A brunette Scarlett Johansson, who is the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s new beauty line, was making her first visit to the Italian city, having recently directed a short film called “These Vagabond Shoes” as part of the anthology film “New York, I Love You.” “It’s so interesting to meet all these different people, who eat breaded veal, wear fabulous clothes and look fit while doing it,” she told WWD.
Freida Pinto was getting used to the limelight after the success of Oscar winner “Slumdog Millionaire.” “All the hoopla is dying down, so I’m getting a chance to catch my breath after the crazy period, but I have such lovely memories,” said Pinto, who has two projects in the pipeline — one with Woody Allen to be filmed in London and costarring Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Naomi Watts, who was also at the show, and another, which was “very hush hush.”
Kate Hudson kept her brother, Wyatt Russell, and Eva Mendes entertained with her take on the circle of life, from meeting Mr. Right, getting married, “then you have a kid, get divorced and then you’re a whore.”
Meanwhile, Eva Herzigova was “all ears” in a red gown with exaggerated circular shoulders from Dolce & Gabbana’s spring collection. “How could you not notice me in this?” Herzigova queried. Model David Gandy, a staple on and off the house’s runway, said he would be moonlighting as an editor for new London-based fashion and politics magazine Fashist, which launches later this month. “I’ll be covering all the motoring,” Gandy said, adding he would feature in Dolce & Gabbana’s fall ad campaign, shot by Steven Klein in June.
Elsa Pataky just wrapped up “Mr. Nice” with Chloë Sevigny and “Giallo,” directed by horror king Dario Argento, in which she gets kidnapped and goes through other terrifying adventures, while former Bond girl Caterina Murino is also about to embark on a nail-biting adventure, playing a policewoman in the thriller “Die” — which says it all. Lauren Hutton described herself as “a monster” in the first movie she’s done in 20 years, “The Joneses,” with Demi Moore and David Duchovny, but the genre is entirely different. “It’s about stealth merchandising,” and Hutton plays Moore’s and Duchovny’s boss.
Nadja Auermann said she was as nervous being back on the fashion circuit as on the runway, “if not more.” Conversely, Claudia Schiffer just sat back and relaxed. “What fun,” she said.
