Michael Kors was very clear about the look he was after for his runway show Wednesday morning: "deep side part, very smooth, no flyaways and a bun."
Michael Kors was very clear about the look he was after for his runway show Wednesday morning: "deep side part, very smooth, no flyaways and a bun," said Orlando Pita, who keyed the hair at the show. After creating a deep side part on the right side of the hair, Pita pulled hair back and wound it into a ladylike bun, hiding the pins inside of the bun. Next, Pita set to work with a can of hair spray from his eponymous styling line with T3.
"We're using hair spray and plenty of it," said Pita. After an initial generous helping of the hair spray, Pita set to work with a toothbrush and more hair spray, lacquering hair until not a flyaway remained. For a final finish, Pita used a rattail comb to tuck stray pieces into the bun for an impeccably neat appearance.
Dick Page — who, when he's not doing runway shows and photo shoots, serves as Shiseido's artistic director — used products he created for Shiseido's spring and fall 2009 seasonal color palettes to create "a pretty and wearable look." Deciding on a smoky eye — "it was the first of five looks we tried at the test, and the one we liked the best," said Page — Page decided to render it in gray tones, noting that these shades are more "user-friendly" than traditional black shades. Page swept Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Slate across eyelids and halfway up the brow bone, adding Tar, a deeper gray, in the crease of the eye and Lingerie, a pale beige, just under the brow bone. Page then used the brand's Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in black at the lash lines on top and bottom, adding plenty of black mascara to lashes for a dramatic finish. Page kept the rest of the face fairly simple, using Shiseido's Dual Balancing Foundation all over the face and Shiseido's Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Almond Pink to finish. A hint of blush and highlighter on the cheeks finished the look.
