Dior's Express Trip to the Twenties via the Orient
Hair was worn short, pinned into square bangs and bobs. "It's very Louise Brooks," said hairstylist Orlando Pita backstage, referring to the American silent film actress of the day. A second style saw locks pinned into waves also popular in the decade.
To get the look, Pita used a total of 12,000 colored bobby pins on the show's 44 models. For extra hold, he added a generous dose of Control Hairspray from his own range.
The Twenties also inspired Pat McGrath, who incorporated a Japanese twist into makeup, too. Rainbow hues saturated eyes and cheeks, while straight, super-thin brows and lipstick concentrated in the centre of the lips evoked a geisha look. Eyes were huge, layered with false lashes on top and bottom. "Think of Poiret with lots of color and sparkle for the evening," McGrath explained, in reference to French designer Paul Poiret known for mixing oriental styles into his collections.
