Front Row at Schiaparelli

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli joined fashion designers including Azzedine Alaïa, Christian Louboutin and Bruno Frisoni at the Schiaparelli show.

SHOP TALK: Valentino’s creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli joined fashion designers including Azzedine Alaïa, Christian Louboutin and Roger Vivier’s Bruno Frisoni at the Schiaparelli show on Monday. “We believe in couture, so we think it’s important to support the couture week,” Chiuri said.

She noted Valentino recently opened a new atelier in Rome, its third, dedicated to couture for men and turning out such luxurious items as double-faced cashmere coats. “We believe in one-of-a-kind,” she said, noting Valentino employs 70 seamstresses in couture.

Inès de la Fressange, in the throes of relaunching her signature brand, said she wants to shake things up, believing the current fashion system is out of whack with needs. “When you’re looking for something for summer, all they have is cashmere and tweed,” she lamented. De la Fressange said her ultimate aim is to open a boutique on the Left Bank of Paris to showcase a range of licensed products in the works. “If you don’t have a shop, it’s abstract,” she said.
