A Pre-Raphaelite Look at Valentino

Guido Palau and Pat McGrath dreamed up the couture show’s hair and makeup.

PARIS — Guido Palau said the inspiration for the Valentino couture show’s beauty look was “Ophelia, water, shine, waves, pre-Raphaelite.”

To wit, he crafted an undulating movement in models’ tresses then used Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist for a wet look.

“The girls were to be serenely beautiful,” continued makeup artist Pat McGrath, who also called them “very ethereal.”

She paled down models’ eyelids and brows. On skin, McGrath used highlighting and contouring products.

“It’s as if her features look like a sketch, a drawing — almost like an incredible statue,” said McGrath.
