Front Row At Iris van Herpen

British milliner Stephen Jones was among the guests at the show.

NEW DIMENSIONS: Inspired by the 3-D technology omnipresent in Iris van Herpen’s collections, Stephen Jones said he was tinkering with his first 3-D printed hat. “It’s something I’m working on this very moment,” the British milliner said, revealing the launch for next spring.

“Basically it’s particles of metal, plastic or rubber fused together at a high temperature, and where it’s fused together is controlled by a computer, so you can make things in three dimensions fairly easily,” he said.

But is it wearable? “Oh, totally — it’s all about fashion,” Jones said. “And it feels great, because we work with 3-D printing that is flexible. It’s on the head, so it has to be comfortable.”
