NEW YORK — Fashion’s Night Out, scheduled for Sept. 8, is shaping up to be another shopping evening with plenty of activities across New York and beyond.
Today, fashionsnightout.com, which is operated by QVC, will unveil this year’s list of retail events, and it features many personal appearances and special designer initiatives.
Among the highlights, Michael Kors will step into the Fifth Avenue window displays at Bergdorf Goodman to mark his three decades at the specialty store. Bergdorf’s will also feature live performances by Audrianna Cole and The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn, and a reprise of the “BG Best in Show” contest with designers like Joseph Altuzarra, Reem Acra, Pamella Roland and Bibhu Mohapatra taking a trip down a runway with their dogs.
Tommy Hilfiger, and Rachel Roy and Amar’e Stoudemire will be among the designers at Macy’s Herald Square, which is also staging live performances by Kelly Rowland and Joss Stone.
Bloomingdale’s will also have a string of personal appearances, from Rachel Zoe to Erin Wasson for Zadig & Voltaire; Michelle Smith from Milly, and Michael Aram, and Edun’s Ali Hewson and a special guest — husband Bono perhaps? — will be on hand as storytellers, letting shoppers determine which ones are true and which ones fibs.
Jade Jagger, meanwhile, will make her way to Henri Bendel to launch her new jewelry collection, while Solange Knowles will be DJing at Lord & Taylor.
At Saks Fifth Avenue, Pringle of Scotland designer Alistair Carr will join Tilda Swinton and Louise Wilson of London’s Central Saint Martins school for a special event; Ne-Yo will sign hats from his line and perform, and designer personal appearances include Doo-Ri Chung and Prabal Gurung.
Elsewhere, Nacho Figueras will host an event at Ralph Lauren on Prince Street with photographer Mark Seliger; Donna Karan and Marisa Berenson will celebrate the “Marisa Berenson: My Life in Pictures” book at Karan’s Collection boutique on Madison Avenue, and Victoria’s Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Erin Heatherton and Lily Aldridge will descend on the brand’s store on Broadway in SoHo for photo ops with shoppers.
E-tailers are also participating this year, including Shopbop, Gilt Groupe and Net-a-porter, which is taking over the idea of window shopping to a new level. The site is taking over actual window displays in London as well as New York and filling them with designer merchandise. Shoppers who download The Window Shop app will be able to buy pieces from the windows.
Fashion’s Night Out will feature its first FNO NYC Guide app to help guide people through the shopping events.
As in the first two years, there will be a collection of FNO T-Shirts, baseball caps and totes, with 40 percent of the proceeds benefiting the New York City AIDS Fund and the New York Community Trust.
