William Fung is the group-managing director of Li & Fung Ltd., the international sourcing powerhouse, which he runs with his brother, Victor, who is chairman.

Hong Kong-born Fung, like his brother, was educated in the United States. He graduated from Princeton University with a BS in engineering and earned his MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1970. Though Fung had misgivings about returning to Hong Kong to run the trading company founded by his grandfather, those doubts soon evaporated.

Fung and his brother persuaded their father to take the company public in order to gain better corporate governance than a family-owned culture would permit. That was the first of many business-savvy moves that would take Li & Fung from a local trading company to a global supply chain service provider sourcing apparel, accessories and footwear.

Fung is an independent non-executive director at the HSBC banking organization and a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He is also a past chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Exporters’ Association and the Pacific Economic Cooperation Committee.
