Marc Jacobs

As artistic director, Marc Jacobs is the creative force and head designer for Louis Vuitton, the luxury goods fashion house owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Jacobs is the eminent rule-breaker. Revered for the controversial Grunge line he created for Perry Ellis, Jacobs also had the audacity to mess with the sacred Louis Vuitton monogram — to great acclaim. The seven-time winner of awards from Council of Fashion Designers of America is in a class all his own when it comes to shaking up the fashion world.

After graduating from New York City’s High School of Art and Design in 1981, Jacobs attended Parsons School of Design (now known as Parsons The New School for Design). Together with business partner Robert Duffy, Jacobs launched the Marc Jacobs label in 1986. The Jacobs-Duffy duo joined Perry Ellis in 1989, with Jacobs as artistic director. In 1997, Jacobs and Duffy signed on with LVMH’s Louis Vuitton to revive the classic icon.

Jacobs is known for his lavish, theatrical fashion shows and wearable apparel and handbags. He also designs for the eponymous Marc Jacobs International, whose labels include the high-end Marc Jacobs and the Marc by Marc Jacobs lower-priced diffusion line.

Marc Jacobs International is majority-owned by LVMH, but Jacobs and Duffy maintain creative control.
