The Pantone Color Institute disclosed the top 10 colors chosen by New York designers in the Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2010. For the first time, Pantone surveyed New York designers on their top men’s choices for spring. The top colors that appeared for both women’s and men’s were Turquoise, Amparo Blue and Dried Herb.

Here, the Top 10 Pantone colors for men's collections chosen by New York designers for spring 2010.

1 COFFEE LIQUEUR PANTONE 18-0930

Percentage of designers who used this color: 16.32

“There are many parallels between the men’s and women’s palettes,” Eiseman said, noting this version of brown will be used heavily in men’s suits.

2 FLINT GRAY PANTONE 16-5803

Percentage of designers who used this color: 16.01

“The top colors are more inclined to be in the neutral tones, like this version of gray for men,” Eiseman said. She added that tailored looks for men will capture this color well.

3 AMPARO BLUE PANTONE 18-3945

Percentage of designers who used this color: 15.98

This, the first of three crossover colors, is the men’s version of blue for the season. Nautica features plenty of Amparo Blue in its collection.

4 STEEL GRAY PANTONE 18-4005

Percentage of designers who used this color: 14.74

This season’s overall leisure and escapism trend for men was seen in relaxed Steel Gray cotton jackets and trousers for spring, WWD reported this month.

5 SHEEPSKIN PANTONE 14-1122

Percentage of designers who used this color: 9.38

For spring, Ralph Lauren featured a pair of Sheepskin-colored tailored pants in his Polo Ralph Lauren collection, which was revealed to editors in August.

6 CHALK VIOLET PANTONE 17-3615

Percentage of designers who used this color: 7.42

For spring footwear, buyers are seeing colors that cover the spectrum — especially purple, according to Lanita Layton of Holt Renfrew in Canada.

7 TURQUOISE PANTONE 15-5519

Percentage of designers who used this color: 6.37

The Calvin Klein spring collection worked in several Turquoise looks in June, including tailored suits, pants and lightweight jackets.

8 SPICY ORANGE PANTONE 18-1445

Percentage of designers who used this color: 5.74

“Color is making a comeback this season,” Eiseman said. Marc Jacobs featured splashes of this color in his spring collection, shown last June.

9 SUDAN PANTONE 18-1160

Percentage of designers who used this color: 4.09

The Calvin Klein show in June featured relaxed suits, shirts and jackets in this interesting play on the color brown.

10 DRIED HERB PANTONE 17-0627

Percentage of designers who used this color: 3.95

Monarchy Collection, the young men’s and women’s contemporary brand, chose Dried Herb as part of its spring palette, according to Pantone.
