Stanley Gellers, who covered the men's wear industry for Fairchild Publications with passion and wit for more than 50 years, died Saturday, March 21 after a short illness, according to a close friend, Betty Groden.

Gellers, 84, died at Southampton Hospital in Southampton, N.Y., several days after being admitted last week and being diagnosed with lung cancer. Gellers lived in Amagansett, Long Island and Tudor City in Manhattan.

A veteran of DNR and Menswear, both former Fairchild Publications, Gellers was arguably the industry's foremost authority on tailored clothing. Known as "Uncle Stan" to many of his younger colleagues, he was always willing and eager to impart his vast wisdom on style and trends within the men¹s wear industry.

In his later years, he became a columnist for DNR, a venue that allowed him to provide his unabashed opinion on some of the most important issues and personalities within the men¹s wear community.

He retired from DNR two years ago and continued writing his column as an editor-at-large until DNR was folded into WWD on Nov. 24, 2008. Gellers is survived by his nieces Elizabeth Arzt and Margaret Gellers, both of York, Pa.

Groden said that Gellers will be cremated and that a memorial service will be planned.
