LONDON — London’s nascent men’s wear showcase is gaining momentum: The latest label to hop aboard is Alexander McQueen, which plans to show its main line here in January.

The British Fashion Council said that McQueen has joined the official schedule of London Collections: Men, which runs from Jan. 7 to 9.

“It’s great to be showing our men’s wear main line as part of London Collections: Men, especially with London being the home of Alexander McQueen and our first dedicated men’s wear store opening on Savile Row this autumn,” said Jonathan Akeroyd, the label’s chief executive.

The addition of McQueen, which usually stages static presentations in Milan in January and June, will no doubt ratchet up the rivalry between London Collections: Men and Pitti Uomo, whose dates partially overlap. The Italian men’s exhibition is scheduled to take place in Florence from Jan. 8 to 11, and Pitti has already criticized the British Fashion Council’s decision to stage its shows at the same time.

Asked about the McQueen development, Raffaello Napoleone, chief executive officer of Pitti Immagine, which organizes Pitti Uomo, said he has been engaged in talks with Caroline Rush, ceo of the British Fashion Council, to find solutions for future editions.

“Given the proximity to the holiday of the Epiphany [on Jan. 6], there was not much we could do for January next year, but we are in contact to define a program that will support operators,” he said. “It’s in the interest of all to create the least inconvenience possible.”

In reference to McQueen, he merely said that the function of a trade show is different from that of a fashion week.

McQueen joins Tom Ford, who will also present his men’s collection in London for the first time in January. The BFC said the first provisional schedule will be published in October.
