NEW BEAUTY STORES: NewBeauty magazine is getting into the retail business. Adam Sandow, chief executive officer of the quarterly magazine's publisher, Sandow Media Corp., said stores will begin appearing in affluent markets next year but that a smaller 1,200-square-foot test unit, called NewBeauty, had a soft opening about two months ago in its home base of Boca Raton, Fla. The stores are being viewed as a "key revenue driver to build online and print properties," according to Sandow, who said there was no specific sales per square foot target at this point. The concept is to focus on skin care with a limited selection of color cosmetics and fragrances. The store currently offers 700 items under 28 brands, including N.V. Perricone M.D., Dr. Brandt Skincare, MD Skincare and Pur-lisse.
