The Road to Black: E-commerce companies are having a Millennial moment. They’ve moved out of their dorm rooms and set up shop, in many cases establishing substantial businesses with real sales traction — but they still can’t support themselves.

Amazon’s “Pay to Play”: Companies such as Burberry Group plc and Levi Strauss & Co. that partner with Amazon.com have scored unusual deals that let them control how their merchandise is sold through the world’s largest online retailer, according to a study.

Target Hits Silicon Valley: Target Corp. opened an office in Sunnyvale, Calif., where it is a neighbor of Silicon Valley powerhouses such as Yahoo, Juniper Networks and NetApp. Target plans to have more than 70 data scientists, software engineers and product managers working in the new office.

Crest & Co.’s High-End Approach: Crest & Co., a high-end and private clienteling service, is out to push the price boundaries of luxury goods online. The company, founded by Nima Abbasi this year, offers its customers only exclusive, one-of-a-kind or limited-edition items and is testing the upper limits of what is typically seen in the world of e-commerce.

VF’S Best Dressed Online: Vanity Fair is celebrating an old tradition with new media. The magazine, which has published the International Best Dressed List since 2004, is feting the 10th year of its stewardship with a Web site.

Hermès’ Tie Break: Hermès launched a mobile app for its tie enthusiasts, Tie Break, targeting a man on the go. Intended as a way for shoppers to learn more about the brand’s ties, the app features seven “breaks” — including GIFs, games, funny phrases and comics.

The Outnet Teams With Victoria Beckham: Victoria Beckham, in partnership with The Outnet, will sell more than 600 items of her clothing — with a percentage of proceeds going to mothers2mothers, a nonprofit organization that trains, employs and empowers mothers living with HIV.
