TARGET TALLIES CYBERTHEFT DAMAGE: Target Corp. is reaching out to customers whose credit and debit card account information might have been compromised when cyberthieves stole data from as many as 40 million customers between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15. Target is working with law enforcement, the U.S. Secret Service and financial institutions and said it has “identified and resolved” the breach.

GOOGLING IN 2013:
Google shared its view of the world with its Zeitgeist 2013 report, detailing who and what people are going to the search engine to find. Versace came out on top as the most searched-for high-fashion brand in the U.S., and Kohl’s topped the list of the most searched-for apparel brands and retailers

FERRAGAMO PREVAILS IN COUNTERFEITING CASE:
A Manhattan federal court awarded Salvatore Ferragamo $4.3 million in damages following its suit in January against 15 defendants who held 95 Internet domain names that infringed on Ferragamo’s trademarks.

DIGITALLY SELF-AWARE: Self magazine is next up to get its own digital channel, WWD reported. Set to go live early next year, the channel is part of Condé Nast Entertainment’s push toward a broader digital strategy for the publishing company.

IF THE SHOEFITRS:
Nordstrom Inc. has teamed up with, and made an investment in, Shoefitr, a company that provides fit and sizing information for online shoe shoppers. Shoefitr uses 3-D imaging software to offer size and fit recommendations on some of Nordstrom’s most popular styles.

NIKE BOOSTS ONLINE PRESENCE:
Nike Inc.’s e-commerce revenues grew 33 percent in its second fiscal quarter. “And, at less than 15 percent of [direct-to-consumer] revenues today, our e-commerce business clearly has an opportunity to grow,” said Mark Park, president and chief executive officer. Nike.com is now online in both Japan and Brazil.

MACY’S ROLLS INTO TULSA:
Macy’s Inc. plans a 1.3 million-square-foot direct-to-consumer fulfillment center near Tulsa, Okla. It’s expected to be operational by April 2015 and employ about 1,500 full- and part-time associates, with an additional 1,000 employees brought in at peak holiday periods to meet omnichannel demand.

ZEBRA IN CHANGE OF STRIPES: Zebra Technologies Corp. reinforced its position in retail technology with its acquisition of Hart System, a provider of cloud-based inventory management systems, from private equity firm Topspin Partners LBO for $94 million in cash. Hart will become part of a new Retail Solutions Group at Zebra.
