WHO GETS DEBORAH?: The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times are holding their breath — waiting for WSJ. editor Deborah Needleman to make up her mind. As of late Tuesday evening, sources expected her to accept the editor in chief position at T: The New York Times Style Magazine. But insiders at the Journal insist that they aren’t quite sure how it will all go down. One source said Needleman spoke to Robert Thomson, managing editor at the Journal, on Tuesday and he asked her to reconsider. A spokeswoman for the News Corp. title could not be reached for comment, nor could Needleman.
But the Journal and the Times apparently weren’t the only ones chasing Needleman, who seems to be more in demand than Peyton Manning before he became a Denver Bronco. Sources claim she also was courted by Hearst Magazines for a spot there, but a Hearst spokeswoman said Tuesday that Needleman won’t be joining the company.
Talk about a media tug of war.
