BRITISH TOWN & COUNTRY TO HIT NEWSSTANDS: Town & Country is set to unveil its British edition later this week, and has picked Downton Abbey actress Lily James, shot by photographer David Slijper, to capture the title’s tony spirit for a U.K. audience.
The title, published by Hearst Magazines U.K., has also taken a high-brow approach to its contributors — its editor-in-chief Justine Picardie, who also serves as editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, has tapped author Andrew O’Hagan to interview James about class and her role in Downton Abbey, along with the show’s creator Julian Fellowes. Other contributors include writer Harry Mount, who discusses the U.K.’s “new establishment,” and Sophie Elmhirst, a former features editor of the New Statesman, who has penned a piece on how the Duchess of Cambridge “has single-handedly injected 1 billion pounds [$1.68 billion] into the British economy.” Meanwhile, the issue will also feature an interview with Prince Charles, by his biographer Catherine Mayer.
Picardie described Town & Country as “celebrating” both Britain’s traditions and the “tidal wave” of new wealth that has flooded into London with “a British sensibility, thoughtful and intelligent writing and an original and authoritative voice.”
The first issue, which hits news-stands Thursday, has a print run of 60,000 and 62 advertising pages, with Louis Vuitton, Dior, Ralph Lauren and Tiffany among its luxury advertisers. Its cover price is 5.95 pounds, or around $9.99, and the title will be published biannually in 2014 and quarterly in 2015.
