TOAST OF THE TOWN: Candidates to succeed Michael Bloomberg as mayor spent their Monday evening at a forum hosted by the New York League of Conservation Voters discussing, among other riveting topics, the construction of a stadium in Queens for Major League Soccer. Bloomberg, on the other hand, spent it at the Four Seasons with Anna Wintour and other Condé Nast editors. The mayor was the surprise guest at a private, closed-to-press cocktail party thrown by Condé to toast its 27 National Magazine Awards nominations. After brief remarks by editorial director Thomas Wallace, new artistic director Wintour, who invited the mayor, introduced Bloomberg and also praised his advocacy for gun-control legislation.
Bloomberg, again playing the part of media cheerleader — a role he’s played to much acclaim in the past — saluted Condé’s nominations and history. “I just wanted to stop by tonight to thank you for doing all of that right here in New York City,” the mayor said, according to a spokeswoman. Bloomberg didn’t miss a chance to praise the company for its growing real estate investment downtown, attendees said.
Last to speak was chief executive officer Charles Townsend.
Vogue had no further comment, said new director of communications Hildy Kuryk, who succeeds Megan Salt, soon to leave for Amazon Fashion. While staying at Condé, Wintour clearly wants to keep her hand in politics. Kuryk is a former finance consultant for Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign and was last the national finance director of the Democratic National Committee. A presidential ticket in the making, perhaps — Bloomberg/Wintour?
