TIME CHANGE: It’s a time of transition at Time Inc. and Kim Kelleher has decided to make one of her own. Kelleher, worldwide publisher of Time magazine since May 2011, is leaving to become president of Say Media, a blog network that includes xoJane, Remodelista and Style Bubble. The company is best known, as of late, for xojane.com’s controversial former beauty editor Cat Marnell, who embarked on a mini press tour following her departure from the site.
Kelleher admitted the timing is tough, since she’s worked hard to build momentum at the weekly and expand the brand (Time Style & Design was recently relaunched), but she said the enthusiasm Say Media’s chief executive officer Matt Sanchez has for building the company was hard to resist. “She is going to help us evolve in a smarter way,” said Sanchez. “This company is at the intersection of Silicon Valley and Madison Avenue, and Kim brings a senior New York presence to us. She will help us raise our profile and guide us into having more interesting conversations.”
The move was first reported in Ad Age.
Say has four channels — style, living, food and technology — and Sanchez said he’s looking to add more. “She brings a lot of international experience, so we’ll also continue to expand globally. And, we’ll continue to buy brands that make sense.”
Prior to joining Time magazine, Kelleher was publisher of Time Inc.’s Sports Illustrated Group. It’s unclear when she’ll depart Time but Kelleher is expected to join Say Media in September.
