THE NEXT BIG THING: Stylsize, a little-known start-up in Ontario that creates fashion-minded apps, is one of the winners of this year’s “NYC Next Idea” competition. Run by Amy Bergenwall, Dan McCann and Andrei Rotenstein, Stylsize is developing an app that will allow online shoppers to visualize how various clothing will fit. Sponsored by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the contest drew 270 business ideas from 62 countries. (The other winner is TaxiTreats, which is designing a vending machine to be used in taxis.)
Each company receives $17,500 in cash prizes and six months of free office space in a yet-to-be-determined location. During a weeklong visit to Gotham, the winners and four other finalist teams got an earful from an assortment of corporate authorities, immigration lawyers and angel investor David Rose. They also toured Nasdaq, General Assembly and Shopkeep.com.
