PARIS — Suzy Menkes will join Condé Nast International (CNI) as a critic and reporter for all the international Vogue Web sites, Jonathan Newhouse, chairman and chief executive of Condé Nast International, said today.
Menkes joins CNI after 25 years as style editor at the Paris-based International New York Times — formerly the International Herald Tribune.
She will be based at the CNI office in London, a spokesperson said.
“Suzy Menkes is a unique talent, with superb judgement about fashion and keen insight into the business behind it. She is hugely influential and respected. Her contribution will bring even greater quality and authority to the Vogue brand,” said Newhouse.
"I think it's the most wonderful opportunity," Menkes told WWD at the Stella McCartney show. "Change is good, it's what fashion is all about."
Menkes said she could not help but feel a "pang" exiting the International New York Times and International Herald Tribune.
She said she would be "writing online and I'll be doing my same job," lauding the international scope of the Condé Nast company.
In addition to her work as a journalist, Menkes will be involved in organizing an annual CNI conference devoted to the luxury goods industry.
CNI has 19 Vogue Web sites, including in the U.K., France, Italy, China, Russia, Japan, Germany and Spain.
