SPEAKING OF FILM: InStyle U.K. is aiming to show that a print title is fully equipped to give its readers a 360-degree media experience. To celebrate the magazine’s 10th anniversary, InStyle tapped seven designers to each make a short film, looking at the concept of style. Working with London production company Academy Films, designers Diane von Furstenberg, Christian Louboutin, Henry Holland, Emma Hill of Mulberry, Roberto Cavalli and Zac Posen partnered with a director of their choice to create a film. Von Furstenberg, for example, teamed with director Loïc Prigent, who shot the designer talking about “everything that empowers and inspires her,” the magazine said, while Posen asked Poppy de Villeneuve to direct Coco Rocha “dancing like an exotic bird,” according to de Villeneuve. Meanwhile, Paul Smith directed his own film, and shot model Tali Lennox wandering through the Nottinghamshire countryside at night.
The films will launch on InStyle U.K.’s Web site Nov. 23, following a premiere in London the night before, and each designer has also designed a limited edition subscriber cover for InStyle’s December issue. In addition, the title features a short film competition for readers. Burberry’s Christopher Bailey is one of the judges, and the reader who submits the winning short film will win a two-week placement at Burberry’s creative media department and will be invited to shoot a short film at an InStyle celebrity cover shoot.
