Southern Living Appoints Sid Evans EIC

The Time Inc.-owned magazine said Sid Evans would be its new editor in chief, as outgoing editor departs for a new career.

Southern Living has a new editor in chief — well, sort of.

Parent-company Time Inc. has put Sid Evans, group editor, in charge of the magazine. Evans has overseen Southern Living for the past three years, in addition to sister publications Cooking Light, Coastal Living, Sunset and This Old House.

He replaces Lindsay Bierman, who edited the Time Inc.-owned pub since 2010. He has departed the magazine to become chancellor of the University of North Carolina’s School of the Arts.

“Southern Living has an extraordinary connection with its audience, and that’s always been the secret to its success,” Evans said. “Now we’re expanding that relationship to include books, digital products, retail partnerships, real estate, travel and all sorts of Southern experiences. There’s never been a more exciting time to step into this job.”

Prior to rejoining Time Inc. in 2011, Evans served as editor in chief of Garden & Gun. He was also the editor in chief of the then-Time Inc.-owned Field & Stream from 2002 to 2007. During that time, he added the title of editorial director of Salt Water Sportsman in 2004. He has also served as editor of Men’s Journal and has held senior editor positions at GQ and Sports Afield.
