SMALTO IN REVIEW: To celebrate a milestone in European men’s wear, the book “Francesco Smalto: 50 ans d’élégance masculine” (or “Francesco Smalto: 50 Years of Masculine Elegance,” in English) will be published this fall.
Available starting on Nov. 22, the 158-page work created with the Smalto fashion house explores the influence of the designer’s birthplace of Reggio de Calabre, Italy; his inspirations and passions, and the development of Smalto’s signature dandy-inspired silhouettes. The book should retail for 40 euros, or $51.85 at current exchange.
Published in French by Le Cherche Midi, “Francesco Smalto: 50 ans d’élégance masculine” is the first major retrospective on the designer to come out in the past two decades. Its only predecessor is a catalog from the 1992 Hôtel de Sully exhibition, which focused on the first 30 years of Smalto’s men’s fashion creations.
