REALITY CHECK: With 13 issues under its belt, how is it going at Reality Weekly? According to a spokesman, the American Media Inc. title is selling 100,000 copies a week and is already profitable. He added that a Web site is in the works and there are ongoing discussions with two production companies to create a news program based on the magazine.
The competition is telling a different story. Sources claimed none of the magazines 13 issues so far have hit 100,000 — although at least one has come close. They contend the title could be feeling the heat from AMI’s board, eager for a hit.
As for a report last week in the New York Post about editor in chief Richard Spencer’s recent long absence from the office, the Reality Weekly spokesman said Spencer is working from home and the office, “just like other editors do.”
