BERLIN — Philipp Wolff has been named director of corporate communications at Hubert Burda Media in Munich, effective Dec. 1, 2013. This is a new position.
Wolff will assume the corporate communications responsibilities from board member for publishing Philipp Welte, who served as acting manager of corporate communications since March 2013.
Wolff was most recently senior vice president of worldwide communication for Hugo Boss. During his 12-year tenure with the German fashion giant, Wolff headed corporate and product PR, advertising, retail marketing, media planning as well as sports and arts sponsoring. Prior to Boss, Wolff worked for Escada and Grey Advertising in New York, as well as other creative and advertising agencies.
Wolff will oversee corporate PR, brand PR, public affairs and creative services for Hubert Burda Media, the department heads of which will report directly to Wolff. Wolff, in turn, will report to Burda board member Welte.
Hubert Burda Media and its partners publish over 300 magazines worldwide, 87 in Germany and the remainder in 17 markets around the world. Burda’s leading German titles include Elle, Freundin, InStyle, Das Haus, Max, Bunte, Playboy and Focus. In cooperation with Hearst Communications, the group also recently launched the German edition of Harper’s Bazaar, which is to go monthly in spring 2014.
Burda was one of Germany’s earliest digital players, and last year took over the majority stake in Xing, a social network for professional contacts in German-speaking Europe. Burda is also active in dating, travel, doctor rating and assorted other digital platforms. At the same time, Burda remains one of Europe’s largest gravure printing companies.
In 2012, the Hubert Burda Group generated consolidated external sales of 2.46 billion euros, or $3.16 billion at an average exchange rate for the period.
