ORIGINAL DOCUMENT: Artist Francesco Vezzoli and photographer Collier Schorr have created separate covers for the debut issue of Document, a new semiannual fashion, art and culture magazine that launches in September. Founded by editorial director and publisher Nick Vogelson and creative and fashion director James Valeri, the New York-based title has lined up a cluster of influential contributors for its 208-page first issue, including Jeff Burton, Jack Pierson, David Armstrong, Paul Wetherell, Maripol, Vince Aletti, Justin Bond, architect Charles Renfro and Scissor Sisters singer Jake Shears. Schorr snapped model Liya Kebede for one cover and Vezzoli created an artwork of his mother for another. A third cover will feature a celebrity, said Vogelson, who was previously the creative director of Out magazine and is a founder of Townhouse Creative, a graphic design and art direction agency.
Italy’s Damiani Editore will print 20,000 copies of Document, which will be distributed to newsstands and bookstores by Distributed Art Publishers. The title will have a cover price of $16 and about 15 percent of the pages will be devoted to advertising. A launch party for Document is slated for Sept. 6 on Fashion’s Night Out at Bookmarc, the West Village bookstore operated by Marc Jacobs. Artist Rachel Feinstein and interior designer Ricky Clifton have signed on to create a window installation for the event.
