ON-AIR AUDITION: Joanna Coles is not giving up her fondness for the small screen just because she’s at Cosmopolitan now. Two days into her new job, she had already landed the magazine a TV gig, an upcoming reality show on CBS called “The Job.” Coles got a taste of TV notoriety while recurring on “Project Runway” as editor in chief of Marie Claire. At Cosmo, she’s tipped her hat to the small screen by inviting sitcom showrunners like Nahnatchka Khan, to contribute feature articles.
When Michael Davies, one of the new show’s producers, was casting about for possible work settings, his talent agency, WME — where both he and Coles are represented — connected them. “They knew I was doing the show and they knew she’d be interested,” Davies told WWD. Cosmo will be featured in one of the show’s eight episodes when it starts airing Fridays in February. Cosmo’s involvement also makes sense because the other producer, reality-TV impresario Mark Burnett, already has a partnership with Hearst Corp. In the show, contestants, who were vetted by Hearst human resources, compete for a job as an editorial assistant at Cosmo. “I knew I’d be changing staffs and I’d have jobs,” Coles said.
