NOT QUITE AS MUCH RAY: It seemed a bit premature a few weeks ago, when Meredith Corp. sent out a press release informing the world that, in principal, it had acquired Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine from Reader’s Digest Association. Insiders now claim the deal is almost done and could be completed by this week.
When Meredith officially takes over, it may have some very unhappy subscribers to deal with, thanks to a letter that was poly-bagged with the November issue. The note informed readers that its “biggest-ever Thanksgiving blowout!” issue, with a bonus section of more than 40 pages, will count toward two subscriber magazines. The duration of subscriptions will be adjusted accordingly, the letter states, and subscribers have been offered a credit if they are unhappy.
