CASTING CALL: The New Republic hasn’t made its big splurge yet. But it’s scooped up another up-and-coming reporter.

Following several recent hires, Noreen Malone, a blogger at New York magazine’s Daily Intel, is the latest to join.

Earlier this month, WWD reported the magazine tried to poach Robert Draper and Mark Leibovich, both contributors to The New York Times Magazine, and Dexter Filkins of The New Yorker.

Leibovich decided to stay at the Times after he was offered a position as chief national correspondent for the Sunday magazine.

Though he’s yet to land any high-profile veterans, editor Franklin Foer has in the last month brought along Julia Ioffe, a contributor to The New Yorker; Marc Tracy, a writer for Tablet magazine, and Greg Veis, a story editor at The New York Times Magazine. Walter Kirn, formerly of GQ, has also joined as a national correspondent.

Malone has been at New York for a little more than a year, blogging mainly at Daily Intel, and she wanted to write longer pieces, she said when reached Friday.

At New Republic, she’ll contribute front-of-the-book pieces and features on the culture of New York and Washington to the print edition, as well as to the Web site. She’ll be based in New York. Her last day at New York magazine is July 6. The magazine’s digital side has seen some turnover recently. After losing associate editor Ben Mathis-Lilley and blogger Amy Odell to Buzzfeed, it hired New York Times Dealbook blogger Kevin Roose and Gawker’s Maureen O’Connor.
