Donna Karan Collaborates With Steven Sebring on Short Film

For “Woman in Motion,” Karlie Kloss was photographed inside a geo-dome by 100 cameras capturing every perspective.

MOTION PICTURE: In February, Donna Karan introduced her 30th anniversary show with an atmospheric video created by Steven Sebring. In time for the clothes to begin to hit stores, the designer took the collaboration with Sebring a step further via a short film that captures the “Woman in Motion,” a concept evocative of Karan’s philosophy. Karlie Kloss was photographed inside a geo-dome by 100 cameras capturing every perspective. The resulting sequence of stills was manipulated into a moving film.

“It’s taking it to the next dimension,” Karan said. “When I saw it for the first time, I felt it was something so personally me. It was everything that I am about — the body, the movement of the body, the energy, the city. It was women on the move.”

The film, which launched on today, serves multiple purposes. It will be part of 30 window installations that mark the designer’s milestone at retail and begin later this month at Bergdorf Goodman, which launched the brand in 1984. Karan also handpicked the stills from the high-technology shoot for the brand’s fall ad campaign, which also make a statement for movement, or, as Karan put it, “the woman on the go.”
