GROOMING AWARDS: Champagne overflowed, as a room full of well-groomed advertisers filled the entire space at the Top of the Standard. They were the toasting Men’s Health’s 10th annual grooming awards — but really, according to its vice president and publisher, it was just an excuse to pop some bubbly.
“It’s just great to base the party around the awards, but it’s to thank our clients and celebrate with them,” said Ronan Gardiner.
Gardiner said that grooming has taken precedence at the Rodale-owned publication. In the last year, he said, grooming has become Men’s Health’s number-one advertising category. The entire effort for the grooming awards, he explained, had the editors sift through 600 products and test each with a panel of experts including doctors, dermatologists, aestheticians, dentists, stylists and more.
The winners included Lab Series’ All-in-One face treatment, Boots aftershave and a face wash from The Blind Barber.
“It’s great to be the little guy and honored here,” said Jeff Laub, cofounder of The Blind Barber, which just opened its third location in Williamsburg. When asked about his own grooming regime, Laub gave advice apropos to Brooklyn: “I let the bumble and bumble drip down from my hair to my body,” he said. “I’m still a guy, I don’t clean that much. I like the natural oils to come up — it gives me a glow.”
