EVERYBODY LOVES A BARGAIN: Forget Fifth Avenue for shopping the sales — bargain hunters are rapidly buying tickets to Lucky’s annual two-day shopping event, Lucky Shops, which offers significant discounts on designer clothing, purses and other accessories. As of three days before doors open to the public on Friday, the amount of advance tickets sold had nearly doubled compared with the same time period last year. Of course, it might have to do with a 50 percent discount: Lucky has slashed the price of tickets, with this year’s advance tickets for Friday night entry costing $35 compared with $70 last year, while Saturday’s ticket price is $20, compared with $40 last year. “The objective of this pricing strategy was to increase foot traffic, so that more consumers could buy more product once inside the doors,” said Lucky vice president and publisher Gina Sanders.
Before the general admission event begins, “Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester, along with event co-chairs Ginny Barber (wife of former New York Giant Tiki Barber), Sonia Jones and Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman will host a VIP shopping event Thursday night in Chelsea. Additionally, the event will be filmed for the second iteration of Lucky Shops TV, airing on the Style Network, Dec. 7. Chevy is the sponsor of the half-hour show and one of four Lucky Shops sponsors. — Stephanie D. Smith
