REVOLVING DOOR: Mary Berner wasted no time finding a new publisher of Reader's Digest, naming Jeff Wellington to the post on Wednesday. As reported by the New York Post, Vanessa Reed left to return to Meredith Corp. as associate publisher of More and Fitness. Wellington will begin Oct. 22, joining from The Parenting Group (which publishes Parenting and Babytalk), where he served as president and group publisher since December 2005. He will report to Eva Dillon, president of RD Inspiration and group publisher of Reader's Digest. During the past year, Wellington assisted in The Parenting Group's transition to Bonnier Group from Time Inc. He could not be reached by press time.

WHO WAS FIRST?: Aesthetics are clearly more part of the business magazine conversation than ever, with Fortune and BusinessWeek both redesigning to chip away at one of Portfolio's supposed competitive advantages. But Fast Company, on a determined rebound, is laying claim to having been there all along, both in terms of editorial emphasis and its pages. As proof, Fast Company has a Masters of Design issue each October, which this year is Christine Osekoski's first issue as publisher. This year's issue has 85 ad pages, an 83 percent increase over last October, with a 22 percent increase year to date. Industrial designer Yves Béhar is on the cover and the magazine singles out a "talent pool" that includes retail store designer Masamichi Katayama, who's worked for Marc Jacobs, and Stephen Burks, who did the bottle for Calvin Klein's ckIN2U.
