Memo Pad: Murdoch Buys Skiff Platform... Glamour Hire...

How convinced is Rupert Murdoch that readers will learn to pay for online journalism? He bought a newsstand and invested in a cash register.

ENGLAND, OH, ENGLAND: Diego Della Valle has turned to Elliott Erwitt again for Tod’s fall ad campaign — and clearly has England on the brain. The black-and-white shots include a bunch of English families: India Hicks, and her two sons, Felix and Armory Flint Wood; heiresses Lauren Remington Platt and her sister Ashley Wilcox Platt, and artist Hugo Guinness, plus movie producer James Johnson of the American Johnson & Johnson dynasty. The ambience shots were taken, naturally, inside and outside a typical English manor. The images will break in the September issues of top glossies. — Alessandra Ilari
