FULL PLATE: Though Gourmet was shut out at the National Magazine Awards last week despite three nominations, it took home two James Beard Foundation Media Awards Sunday night for writing and for its new PBS television show, "Diary of a Foodie." The Condé Nast food monthly, nominated for six Beards, took home two prizes for magazine feature writing without recipes and for best national television food show. The dinner ceremony was at the Millennium Hudson Hotel, where Gourmet editor in chief Ruth Reichl, sat among famed chefs, critics and foodies. Both the San Francisco Chronicle and Saveur took home two awards; Gourmet contributing editor Colman Andrews won an award for magazine feature writing with recipes for a piece on Ireland he wrote while editor in chief at Saveur. Child contributing editor Colleen Pierce won an award for her piece "Solving the Sugar Crisis," though she said during her acceptance speech that the honor was slightly bittersweet. "On Monday, I found I was nominated for this award, and on Tuesday, I found out my magazine was shutting down." Meredith Corp. said in March that it would fold the title after the June/July issue. — Stephanie D. Smith
