SARAH PALIN, ON GUARD: Sarah Palin might be getting ready for her first trip to Asia, but that doesn’t mean she has to take the press along. CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets, a leading Asian independent brokerage and investment group, is touting the fact it has snagged the former Alaska governor and former vice presidential candidate as a speaker at its conference later this month, even sending out a press release on Monday.
The decision to invite Palin, who has been widely criticized for her lack of international experience, has provided the local media with much fodder. “[CLSA] hasn’t said what she is going to speak about. Perhaps we could make a suggestion: she could weigh in on the raging debate over whether Photoshopping her face on various bikini bodies appeals to voters,” Hong Kong-based newspaper The Standard reported Tuesday.
But amidst the media hoopla surrounding Palin’s first visit to Asia and her first speaking assignment outside North America, members of the press interested to see how Palin will fare won’t be allowed into the event. CLSA spokeswoman Mandy Lo confirmed Palin’s Sept. 23 keynote speech will be closed to all media.
“At this point in time, we have not yet finalized which speeches are open to the media and which are not. This decision is not made by CLSA but the speakers themselves. However, we can confirm that Sarah Palin’s session will be a closed one,” Lo said.
