NICK'S NIGHT: It certainly pays to know people — or at least to know people who know people. While many media-savvy New Yorkers might be excited by the idea of a dinner reservation at the Waverly Inn, Nicholas Coleridge got the place to himself Tuesday night to mark the U.S. release of his latest tome, "A Much Married Man." Though many in the room no doubt were there mainly because the evening's hosts were Anna Wintour and Graydon Carter, Coleridge was basking in the limelight, the culmination of a packed day for the man whose day job is as U.K. managing director of Condé Nast.
"I went from Condé Nast meeting to doing a TV thing to meeting to TV thing, back and forth," he said. "It was such a funny day." Nor was it his first time at the restaurant: "Graydon has been kind enough to give me a table," he said with a wink. "Well, his assistant. We all know how it works."
Vogue publisher Tom Florio, Vanity Fair publisher Edward Menicheschi, Glamour editor in chief Cindi Leive and Men's Vogue's Jay Fielden all showed up to congratulate him, as did André Balazs, Tory Burch, Ron Perelman and designers Reed Krakoff, Rachel Roy, Gilles Mendel, Isaac Mizrahi, Behnaz Sarafpour, Peter Som and Zac Posen.
The beach-read novel, which boasts a cover blurb from Carter, provided a bit of window dressing with its new American cover of pouty model types. "They let me choose from about 12 covers," said Coleridge. "I suppose I chose this one because it reminds me of Mario Testino." — Elisa Lipsky-Karasz
