OUT OF THIS WORLD: Men’s quarterly Man of the World tapped artist Tom Sachs to design one of their three special-edition summer covers. The collaboration with Sachs — best known for his 2012 exhibition at the Park Avenue Armory entitled “Space Program: Mars” — was brokered by the publication’s creative director, Randall Mesdon.

“An important theme throughout Sach’s artistic practice is a focus on a stylized ‘DIY’ aesthetic,” said Joseph Akel, Man of the World’s art curator, of the cover. “Randall Mesdon and I approached Sachs to see if he wanted to redesign our cover — something we had never done before. [He] embraced the concept and created what I think is a playful, irreverent take on the magazine cover. The end result is a great marriage between art, fashion, and design.” The other covers include one of actor Garrett Hedlund, shot by John Balsom, and a summer story entitled, “Man Cave,” by Bruce Weber. The issue hits newsstands Monday.
