GREEN LANTERN: The April issue of L’Uomo Vogue, which hits newsstands today, is a tree-hugger’s delight. Billed as the first certified carbon-neutral magazine in Italy, it features New York mayor and C40 Climate Leadership Group president Michael Bloomberg on the cover, with the words “for a better world — eco-sustainable issue” emblazoned across it.
The monthly fashion title rounded up commentary from and portraits of eco-sensitive big-wigs such as Ertharin Cousin of the United Nations World Food Programme; green fashion activist Livia Firth; actor and animal rights supporter Leonardo DiCaprio; Greenpeace Italy activist Chiara Campione; Princess Lalla Hasna of Morocco; Kering honcho François-Henri Pinault; and World Bank president Jim Yong Kim.
“Cities are at the frontline of the battle against climate change,” Bloomberg told L’Uomo Vogue. “Half of the world’s population already lives in urban centers and that number is only going to rise. Urban centers are also responsible for about 70 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.”
The outspoken New York mayor further sounded off about the need for building sustainable infrastructure in developing countries and studying the effects of climate change worldwide to offset environmental damage.
