LIVE FROM THE CFDA AWARDS: For the first time, the CFDA Awards will be broadcast in their entirety. The awards are the second major fashion event in recent memory to get an online broadcast. They follow vogue.com’s live-stream of the Costume Institute gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art earlier this month.
This year’s CFDA Awards, set for June 4 at Lincoln Center, won’t be live-streamed, but broadcast on Style.com a day after they’re given out. Style.com staffers will update fans live on social media, Instagram and Tumblr from the event. Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, said the online show will broaden the awards’, and the organization’s, audience beyond industry folk.
Until now, the awards had been handed out during a nontelevised presentation, and news outlets reported on the event after the fact in print and with video snippets online.
The show will feature a red carpet anchored by the Web site’s Tim Blanks, as well as interviews and a handful of other Web site exclusives. Lexus and Swarovski are the sponsors of the broadcast and the awards, respectively.
