Lisa Cohen, a 28-year veteran of GQ, will exit her position as senior editor in the fashion department of the magazine on Tuesday. She said she is leaving to spend more time with her family.

At GQ, Cohen was responsible for overseeing coverage of the tailored clothing and dress furnishings markets, reporting to creative director Jim Moore, who she worked with for her entire 28-year tenure. “I always had a thing for suits and shirts and ties,” said Cohen. “I have two brothers, three sons and a husband — and Jim Moore was sort of my work husband — so there have always been a lot of men in my life.”

Moore hired Cohen as a fashion editor at GQ in 1983, prior to which she worked in public relations and merchandising at Paul Stuart. At the beginning of her career, Cohen worked at the men’s store Britches of Georgetown.

GQ is in the process of interviewing candidates to succeed Cohen and expects to name someone in a few weeks, said Moore. “Lisa was our tailored clothing guru,” he noted. “It’s a daunting task but we’re looking for someone who has that same depth of sartorial knowledge and eats, sleeps and dreams tailored clothing like Lisa did. She used to line up the suits before a shoot and say the soldiers were ready, and they were.”
