KARDASHIAN’S A HIT: Kim Kardashian and her over-the-top wedding to New Jersey Nets player Kris Humphries easily beat out the last celebrity wedding cover story to break on people.com (the marriage of Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth), and she even beat out tabloid favorites Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who were featured on last week’s People magazine cover. In four days, the Kardashian wedding has driven close to 6 million page views to the title’s Web site.
The story, “Kim Kardashian: ‘It Was Like We Were in Heaven’ ” drove 50 percent more page views on people.com than “Reese’s Perfect Day,” which got 540,000. The Kardashian story also garnered more than double the amount of page views than last week’s cover story: “Inside the Jolie-Pitt Family,” which resulted in 400,000 page views.
The traffic figures are impressive, but the big money will be made at newsstands, where People is looking to easily surpass the reported $1.5 million payment it made to the couple for exclusive photo rights. To sweeten the deal for readers, a $1 off coupon is running on people.com for this issue.
