MARKING A MILESTONE: The Italian edition of Vanity Fair celebrated its 10th anniversary with a 508-page collectible supplement, which hit newsstands on Thursday.
The special issue, with 220 advertising pages, features a selection of the best interviews, stories and photo shoots that have run in the weekly over the past 10 years.
“With this supplement, we wanted to celebrate our readers and give them a gift, since it’s because of them if we have been able to do all this work over the years,” said Italy’s Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Luca Dini. “Editing the material for the volume, we gave priority to the evergreens, to those stories and interviews that can be still interesting for our readers.” In particular, Dini mentioned a story written in 2008 by journalist Imma Vittelli, who was the first to interview Barak Obama’s younger brother George Hussein Onyango Obama in Nairobi, Kenya.
To celebrate the anniversary, Vanity Fair commissioned photographer Fabrizio Ferri to do a short movie starring Italian dancer Roberto Bolle. The micro film, called “Passage,” is about “beauty and passion, which are the fundamental values of Vanity Fair,” said Dini, who also noted that the anniversary supplement comes with the current issue, featuring actress Monica Bellucci on the cover. “We asked Ellen Von Unwerth, who shot our first cover, to photograph her again,” he said. Bellucci is Italian Vanity Fair’s most frequent cover girl.
According to Dini, in the next few months Italy’s Vanity Fair will start using the new logo already adopted by the American edition and will keep expanding its digital version, which already counts more than 5.5 million monthly uniques. In addition, the schedule of the magazine’s Web radio will be enriched “guaranteeing our listeners to experience the newsroom’s life.” Starting from Saturday, the magazine’s astrologer will present a TV program on Discovery Channel.
