DEPARTURE’S NEW ARRIVAL: The Time Inc.-owned Departures has nabbed former New York Times T Magazine online director Horacio Silva as its fashion and style director. The role is a newly created one for Departures, and it underscores the magazine’s commitment to folding more fashion coverage into its pages — not to mention more luxury advertising.
Departures editor in chief Richard David Story told WWD of his search last month, following the loss of its contributing fashion director Amanda Ross, whose contract had expired. Story emphasized his desire to find “an editor and writer” for men’s and women’s coverage, a sharp turn from the stylist role that Ross left open. Following a 10-year career at T and two recent stints at marketing and communications firm AllDayEveryDay and Crane.tv, a culture-inspired video magazine, Silva will rejoin the ranks of the mainstream media on Feb. 24.
