GRAND DESIGNS: Louis Vuitton fever has begun to spread in anticipation of the brand’s exhibition next month at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Last week, Katie Grand invited a host of chums to London’s Electric Cinema to view the short film she made with director Ruth Hogben. The Busby Berkeley-inspired short features a chorus of dancing girls — played by models — who perform their synchronized moves as the camera lingers on their Louis Vuitton shoes and bags.
“We’d been working with Marc [Jacobs] on the previous [Louis Vuitton] show, and his show heavily referenced Bob Fosse and “Cabaret,” so musicals were kind of in the air,” said Grand. Hogben and Grand worked with the choreographer Les Child to create the models’ authentic Thirties dance routines. “It was quite a challenge to move 20 people in one room all at once,” acknowledged Hogben with a smile. The film will be shown on Love magazine’s Web site from today. Grand also took the opportunity to show off the spring-summer issue of Love, which she edits, to guests including Abbey Clancy, Pixie Geldof, Amber Le Bon and Jonathan Saunders. The issue, which hits newsstands today and features Linda Evangelista on the cover, has posted an uptick in year-on-year ad revenue of 25 percent. At 181 ad pages, the issue is up 33 pages, or 22 percent, compared with the spring-summer 2011 issue.
