GAME OF PHONES: Google is playing an April Fool’s Day prank on its users. In the vein of photo-bombings such as Michelle Obama’s slam dunk and Benedict Cumberbatch’s aerial Oscars bomb on YouTube comes David Hasselhoff to infiltrate photos everywhere. Whenever someone uploads a new photo to Google+ tomorrow, the Hoff (and possibly other mystery celebs) will make a surprise appearance, if there’s a little room in the photo. The “tool” will be available until the end of the day.
“We’re introducing a [faux] feature that will allow celebrities to make a spontaneous appearance in your pictures via our Auto Awesome photo tools,” said a spokeswoman, adding, “We are known for our April Fool’s jokes.” Users can test it out by uploading a photo to Google+ after 11 p.m. EST tonight, or snapping a photo on their phone and selecting “Auto Backup” in settings on the Google+ app (for iPhone and Android).
Hasselhoff has been in on the ruse from the start. “We did the project together with David,” the spokeswoman said. “He is totally loving the prank and feeding the fire.”
