GLAMOROUS DO-GOODERS: Glamour magazine has made its picks of the most accomplished women of the year, including Lady Gaga and Malala Yousafzai. The pop star was selected for “having made the world a more tolerant place.” Yousafzai came to prominence when, at 15, she survived an attack from the Pakistani Taliban for advocating for girls’ right to an education. She has since been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and told her story in an autobiography. The cover of the December issue belongs to Gaga. She was photographed, in Gucci, by Patrick Demarchelier, the Vogue favorite who has also been recently moonlighting at Lucky magazine.

The annual awards, which will be formally handed out Nov. 11 and are now in their 23rd year, recognize the good deeds of high-profile women. Some of the other women who made the cut this year are Natalie Massenet, the founder of Net-a-porter, for “having reshaped the fashion industry,” and models Christy Turlington Burns and Liya Kebede for their respective charitable foundations. Glamour will name other winners later this week.

Glamour editor in chief Cindi Leive interviewed Yousafzai for the issue, which is on newsstands a week from today. Interviewing duties for Gaga fell to television personality Andy Cohen. The singer told Cohen she created a nonprofit foundation to promote tolerance. “My ambition was never to rule the world. It was always to change the world,” she said. She also has a new album to promote that will be in stores the same week of the magazine’s publishing date.

Gaga has been riding a blitzkrieg of publicity in the run-up to the album’s release. She already appeared on the fall cover of V and the October issue of Elle. Though Gaga has been a reliable magazine seller in the past, the Glamour cover will test her drawing power in more ways than one. In addition to being her third magazine cover this year, she will face off on newsstands with the ubiquitous pop star of the moment, Miley Cyrus, who appears for the second time this year on the cover of Cosmopolitan. Her March issue preceded her now notorious MTV Video Music Awards but was Cosmo’s second-best seller in the first half of the year.

This is Gaga’s first Glamour cover. She was Vogue’s best seller of the year when she appeared on the magazine’s cover in September 2012.
