HEARST’S GREEN THUMB: Top executives from Hearst Corp. will toast one of its own on Wednesday at The New York Botanical Garden’s 33rd Annual Founders Award Dinner. Hearst director Gilbert Maurer, who has served on the Garden’s board for almost 30 years, will accept the honor at Hearst Tower in Midtown Manhattan for the company’s support of the Garden’s green initiatives. Actress Sigourney Weaver will present Maurer with the award.

“Hearst’s relationship with the New York Botanical Garden goes back a long way. Hearst Corp. and the Hearst Foundations have been an investor and partner of the Garden for decades,” Maurer said. “We bring shared values to the task: education, preservation, conservation. And, perhaps most importantly, a deep appreciation of beauty and wonder.”

Hearst will also unveil a new photography-based exhibit called “The Printed Garden,” which will coincide with the cocktail and dinner. Housed in Hearst Tower’s Alexey Brodovitch Gallery, the exhibit showcases garden photos from five Hearst publications: House Beautiful, Veranda, Town & Country, Elle Decor and Harper’s Bazaar. Expected guests at the event include Frank Bennack, Hearst executive vice chairman; president and chief executive officer Steven Swartz; Glenda Bailey, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar; Michael Boodro, editor in chief of Elle Decor; Newell Turner, editorial director of Hearst design group and Clinton Smith, editor in chief of Veranda.
