FIRST COVER: Androgynous male model Andrej Pejic has notched his first cover for a mainstream glossy magazine, fronting the January issue of Elle Serbia.
His trademark platinum blonde locks are disguised with a short black wig, and he appears on the cover wearing Jean Paul Gaultier, flanked by the words: “Boy who shook the fashion world.” Inside, wigless, he appears in more Gaultier, as well as lingerie by La Perla and Agent Provocateur, in both male and female guises.
Pejic has previously appeared on the covers of iD, New York Magazine, L’Officiel, Turkey and Vestal magazines, among others, but this one is especially poignant for the Serbian-born, 21-year-old model, who moved to Australia with his family when he was eight, after the NATO bombing of Serbia.
He has walked in Gaultier’s shows, sporting both men’s and women’s wear, and was last year expected to become the face of Gaultier’s first male fragrance in 16 years, Kokorico, an honor that ultimately went to Spanish model Jon Kortajarena.
The January issue of Elle Serbia is on sale now.
